Every PowerToys release publishes a SHA256 hash that lets you verify your download has not been tampered with. After downloading, compare your file hash against the published value.

Digital Signature
Official PowerToys installers are digitally signed by Microsoft Corporation. Right-click the installer, select Properties, and check the Digital Signatures tab to confirm the signer before running.
- ✓ Signed by Microsoft Corporation
- ✓ Timestamped signature for long-term verification
- ✓ Open-source source code available for audit
Antivirus False Positive Clarification
Why Some Antivirus Software Flags PowerToys
Because PowerToys includes low-level system utilities such as Keyboard Manager (key remapping), Hosts File Editor, Registry Preview, and File Locksmith (process termination), some antivirus heuristics may flag the installer as potentially unwanted software. This is a known false positive pattern for legitimate system utilities.
PowerToys has been independently scanned and verified clean. Security scans consistently report no viruses, spyware, or malware. If your antivirus blocks the installer:
- Verify the SHA256 hash matches the published checksum above
- Confirm the digital signature is from Microsoft Corporation
- Add an exclusion for the installer if your organization permits it
- Consult our Antivirus Troubleshooting Guide
